Evangelistic Minded Brethren Needed

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

We are in need of helpers in a mission effort in the USA. Do you realize there are approx. 717 counties in the USA that do not have the true church in them? Brethren, there is a great need in this country! Do you, or some brother or sister you know, have an RV of some kind (motor home, travel trailer, etc.) or would you be willing to stay in a motel for a few days or weeks? We need volunteers for any amount of time: for a few days or weeks to full-time work. You do not need to be a preacher or even a teacher, just a desire to serve the Lord faithfully and help in this evangelistic work.

The Work

Our planned work is to go into these counties where the church does not exist and have gospel meetings (in tents, rented places, etc.) and door knock to set up studies, pass out material, and invite them to our gospel meetings. Many of these areas are rural settings with small towns without suitable motels, therefore an RV is very appropriate for this work. Plus we will be traveling from county to county and state to state as the work dictates.

Where possible, we will set up in a campground that is central to several towns without the church and stay there for at least a month (this will reduce camping rates as well). We will work in the northern states during the summer months. This is the time we will need volunteers the most. We may also assist small congregations in door knocking campaigns and meetings.

My wife (Sandy) and I are selling our house in order to do this work full-time. We are now living in a motor home full-time. I am still preaching for the church of Christ at Shenandoah Va., but that will end soon. We are now door knocking part time in an area without the church. For the months of June & July we knocked on 717 doors. We gave out 676 packets with tracts and 166 DVD’s. We had 1 on the spot study and 1 home study. We also signed up 19 for the BCC’s.

Cost of Material

Here is a break down of the present cost for the material: "Searching For Truth" DVD $1 each; tracts at about .06 each; Gospel Minutes church info .03 each; plastic bags to hold the material about .04 each; our introduction letter about .04 each. At each door we leave a packet of material including 6 tracts and our introduction page with an estimated cost of about 40 cents plus. We only leave the DVD if we talk to the people and they have a DVD player. I believe it is well worth the 40+ cents to get the truth before a soul and in many cases before a whole household.

"Whom shall I send and who will go for us?"

This was asked by God to Isaiah. This question is still asked of God’s people today. What will be our answer? Isaiah said, "Here am I; send me" (Isa. 6:8). We need more like Isaiah in the church today. We need more who can see the great need to go into these counties that are without the church. We need brethren who are willing to give up some of their time to knock on a door and invite a lost soul to study the Bible with them. We need individuals and congregations alike with a "mind to work" (Neh. 4:6) and a stick-to-it-ness.

Sad Statistic
One door we knocked on belonged to a Jehovah’s Witness. He said he had lived in that house for 25 years and we were the first ones to knock on his door. One church member we know moved to Tennessee in an area where there are congregations of the Lord’s church all around her. She hadn’t been living there a week when a Jehovah’s Witness knocked on her door. She told the Jehovah Witness lady that she was a member of the church of Christ. The Jehovah Witness said that she had lived in that area all of her life and not once had anyone from the church of Christ knocked on her door. What’s wrong? Do we not have the love and zeal for Christ and His church as the denominations have for their false religion???

Our Commission

Brethren, let us remember the commission we are under and make the necessary sacrifices and "Go" (Mark 16:15). Always remembering the words of our precious Savior: "Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; {38} Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest" (Mat. 9:37-38). Will you answer the call as did Isaiah? "Here am I; send me" (Isa. 6:8).

Please think upon the much good that you may be able to accomplish for the Lord in giving many an opportunity they may never have without your help. Think of the fellowship of "workers together" in this great effort. And yes, the adventure of it. Read the book of Acts and determine to do as they did! If not with us, evangelize in your own area and the next town over, and then the next town that is without the church.

Our First Priority Is to Obey God in All Things

Knowing the supreme love that God has for mankind (John 3:16), it is little wonder that our Father gave unto us (His children) the greatest of all works: Preaching the gospel of Christ unto a lost and dying world. It was of that same divine love that our Lord said: "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature" (Mark 16:15 cp. Mat 28:19). As God’s people, we should radiate that same love toward the lost (cp. II Cor.5:14: Eph. 3:19). We should obey and "Go" because of our love for God (John 14:15) and the lost.

We Cannot Fail If We Obey God!

It is the church’s responsibility to "Go" preach the gospel. We fail only if we do not obey. IF we "Go" and even IF we never convert one soul, we have not failed. Remember: "So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase" (I Cor. 3:7). All people deserve the opportunity to hear the truth. The hearers part is to obey the gospel. We are to present the truth to them. Television, radio, the printed page are all good, but nothing will ever replace face to face personal studies.

Brethren, many opportunities abound, there are many lost souls in those counties without the church and we need your help! "Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest (John 4:35). What will happen to the lost if they never hear the gospel??? What will happen to us IF we do not obey God??? The Lord said "Go." Is the Lord now pleased with our efforts in preaching the gospel to all people?

Please Pray for, and Announce this Work

Please remember us and this work in your prayers. We ask that you copy this and pass it on to as many members of the church as possible. Please announce it and pin it on your bulletin board and print some or all of it in your bulletins. Pray for us, this work and for every good work and faithful worker. Pray as the Lord directed: "Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest" (Mat. 9:38).

Please contact us concerning this work....  Please put for the subject Mission USA.

In Christ,
